Meet Lotus Blossom (she/her, he/him, they/them, it/its), the Chakra Doll, and Uriel's Flame's newest employee! I made her myself, with very specific energy imbued into her seams, and specifically placed special crystals to enhance her abilities - which are helping me send Reiki healing across distances.
That is a lot of fancy vocabulary to describe a fairly simple rag doll. But for me, as a Reiki healer, she serves a very important function in my practice.
Sending Reiki to a person anywhere in the world is something that any Reiki practitioner Level 2 or higher can do. What a Chakra Doll, like Lotus Blossom, does is act as a proxy client. I might not be able to put my hands on my client, but I can put them on the doll, and with my intention of healing a person thousands of miles and many time zones away, I am able to focus my energy to exact points of their body, just like I would if I was performing an in-person session.
Long story short, she is a tool.
But Chakra Dolls, or proxy objects, are far from the only type of tool in the metaphysical community. Have you heard of dousing rods or pendulums? Maybe Tarot or Oracle cards? Perhaps even a Ouija board (I say with serious hesitation, please do not use them unless you know what you're doing and if you are reading this I am going to boldly assume you probably don't)?
All of these are tools used by those practicing various modalities of healing and reading all across the globe (and yes, that means Ouija boards being in the board game section for ages 6+ in Target makes my blood boil). Like all tools, some are easier to use than others, some require training and others can be picked up and used with little to no instruction. So let's compare a couple I am sure you are familiar with: Voodoo Doll vs. Chakra Doll.
A Chakra Doll basically doubles as a child's toy. It is a ragdoll. Nothing really special goes into making them (unless you get fancy, like me, because you are extra) and they can be easily replaced with a teddy bear or large dog toy - i.e. the mostly unstuffed, destroyed rabbit that once belonged to my dog that preceded Lotus Blossom. Likelihood of accidentally harming someone with it? They are in the same category as a pillow in a pillow fight: If you swing it hard enough, it will hurt but not bad.
Voodoo Dolls, on the other hand, are steeped in ritual. They are made with a very specific purpose (and usually person) in mind, and can vary wildly in their potency based on numerous factors. Moreover, the actions you take upon the doll, like putting pins in the body, as is stereotypical, can actually cause harm to the person it is representing; causing anything from pain to bad luck - again it depends on the purpose for which it is made and the action being taken. If you use this in a pillow fight, someone somewhere else might end up with a concussion.
Both dolls. Both metaphysical tools. But very different when compared side-by-side.
Now, not all practitioners and readers use tools. When I am working with mediumship clients, I rely on my abilities and spirit and nothing else. I know a psychic reader who sometimes starts by using cards at the beginning of the day, but by the end of the day she is relying completely on her gifts. For others, the tools are integral, extensions of themselves and their abilities.
The use of these various tools or lack of use doesn't indicate anything about a person's metaphysical abilities - every individual's practice is unique. So don't judge your reader on whether they use Tarot cards or not. It is not reflective of skill or ability either way.
That said, it is important to educate yourself about anything that you think might be a metaphysical or spiritual tool (HINT, HINT: OUIJA BOARDS). Ask people who do use them before trying to use them yourself. Because some of those tools are Chakra dolls. Others are Voodoo dolls.
